![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There’s a thing that springs to my mind every time I think about the “nurture” side of the debate and that’s Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory. Even though there’s no clear sign that only one side is true, I have always believed that the social background has a massively stronger effect on what we decide to be in life. As a matter of fact, some of you might have heard about the “nature-nurture” debate in psychology (and other fields), where people argue whether our personality traits and behaviours are due to genetic or environmental influences. This just goes on to prove that there is no “evil gene”, something I mentioned in Part 1 on this topic earlier in my blog. You can either choose to be good (the Hero) and commit acts which are seen as acceptable by society, or you can choose to be bad (the Villain) and engage in acts which destroy and harm. What it tries to imply is that in life people are often faced with moral decisions and the outcome of these determines who we become later on. This is a famous quote from the fictional character Harvey Dent in the film ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008). ‘You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.’ ![]()
